S'pore's Rich Poor Divide

This article in the current issue of Newsweek says it all... "one problem: average citizens have yet to reap the benefits. New statistics reveal that middle-class households have tasted none of Singapore's spectacular growth, and that the island's poorest 30 percent are worse off than they were five years ago." Nothing new, if you lived in HDB flats, go observe around your neighbourhood, town centres... you'll probably see/hear people complaining about the hard times here. Alot of work here are done by foreigners, not just at the lower & upper levels, but almost everywhere, middle... from cleaning, fast food, malls, admin, IT... Sometimes those company HR people say that they can't hire enough locals, but then majority of companies (both local/MNCs) top priority will be to cut costs. So if they can hire even lower costs foreign workers, why not? Some companies don't give locals priority, they'll just go for lowest wage foreign workers. Not all locals have poor working attitudes, some are hardworking & will need a decent paying job to pay bills in this high cost living environment. Well since S'pore is just a tiny island, we can't prevent foreigners who come here to look for work. Globalisation issues don't only affect us, these issues also happen in other countries. More hard times ahead but there are always opportunities if you remain positive & not negative about it.

Finally I've created my own blog, after delaying it for so long. I'm always reading others blogs, both local & foreign. I followed most of the top news, trends, technology both locally & globally. Reading various good blogs is a great way to get some balanced perspectives from both sides. You don't just want to read/stick to 1 side of the story/topic...
